They are designed so that you can keep some ashes in a beautifully subtle piece of art. You can even have plants and leaves from your own garden or the landscape that you love used in the process (you will need to speak to us about this).
Alison lived in Japan for many years and began to explore Japanese ceramics in greater depth. The work is inspired by flame and fire and influenced by the simple, elegant and traditional Japanese form. She fires in a sagger* containing organic combustible material plants leaves from Dartmoor and and seaweed from the South Hams coast in south Devon. The materials turn from solid to gas and transfer colour, pattern and texture to the pot. The combination of the elements permeates the clay and creates unique, unrepeatable surfaces.
She also enhances the rims with PMC silver clay. The pots are waxed, sealed and polished.

A saggar is a ceramic box-like container that is used in the firing of pottery to enclose or protect ware being fired inside a kiln. The box was traditionally made of fireclay and used to protect the piece from the open flames, smoke, gases and kiln debris.

Keeping the ashes
Many people keep their beloved pet’sashes at home, some because they are not sure what to do with them, some because they are not yet ready to do something with them and some simply want to keep them close by, in the house.
Sometimes, very well meaning, friends will give advice such as ‘it’s time to move on’ or ‘you’ll feel better if you scatter/bury them’.
You are the only one who will know how you feel about the loss of your pet. And only you will know when and if the time is right to do something, if ever, with their ashes.
Until you decide what you want to do a raku urn can keep your pet’s ashes safely and discreetly at home without you having to explain your reasons to anyone.
If someone admires the beautiful urn then it is up to you whether you tell them or not.
