Birthstones by Month – March. Aquamarine is the birthstone for all pets born in March. Aquamarine is, as the name suggests, a beautiful light blue colour that evokes the spirit of the sea. It is the first of the Spring birthstones and as I sit here writing I can see all those wonderful spring signals in my garden. The daffodils are in full bloom, there are even crocuses showing their splendid shades. The start of spring always lifts my spirits, it is the season of hope and birth. Lifting us from our cosy winter slumber into the fresh air and vibrant skies.

March Birthstone Meanings
It is the gem colour for all Pisciens. This is for pets born between February 20th to March 20th. Aquamarine is the symbol of transformation and rebirth, wearing it or placing it near you in your home will bring you vitality and hope. It will also bring you all the restorative powers of the sea. As a keen cold water swimmer I can vouch for how important the sea can be for healing. I defy anyone not to feel better after a cold dip in the sea. I try to swim at least once a week simply because when I get out I feel so good for the whole day. The swim somehow stops negativity finding it’s way into my head.
Because of it’s colour and the latin origin of it’s name, seawater, the Romans believed that wearing Aquamarine would protect you when crossing the sea.
Birthstones and losing a pet.
Aquamarine is also thought to bring happiness and everlasting youth. If only this were true all our pets would be adorned in Aquamarine! When used with the Hanged Man card in Tarot aquamarine is said to help people to pause their daily activities in order to gain solitude and time for contemplation.
To be honest I’ve never even had a Tarot reading but I think the sentiment is an important one when for grieving our pets. Too often we do not give ourselves the time and space to allow the feelings of loss to be felt. Grief is such a tough emotional journey but it is a journey that must be taken in order to gain a sense of inner peace. I am such a believer in doing what you need to do to get through the grief and celebrate your beautiful pet. Whatever brings you comfort should be used and cherished.
