Impact of Pets Ashes on the environment
Are pet’s ashes toxic? No, but if concentrated amounts are placed on the same place it can have an impact which is similar to putting too much fertiliser on the same spot.
They do need spreading out and if you are putting them in the soil you need to dig them in to prevent a concentration of the ashes.
Don’t scatter them in really popular places such as mountain tops as too many ashes in the same spot can have an impact on the local environment and spoil beauty spots for others.
Whilst they are not toxic many people consider them to be unsightly – so please be discreet or incorporate them into the soil.
Ashes are mostly dry calcium phosphates with some minor minerals, such as salts of sodium and potassium. Sulphur and most carbon are driven off as oxidized gases during the process.
As long as you take a little time to ensure that your pet ashes scattering ceremony won’t impact others you can have a really memorable ceremony without impacting the environment.
