Fiona Cocks Memorial Jewellery
Fiona Cocks Memorial Jewellery: Fiona has been making stunning memorial jewellery for us for many years. She is a teacher of silversmithing and jewellery making at the renown Plymouth College of Arts. In fact that’s how I met Fiona, she was my teacher on the introduction to jewellery making course back in 2016. her attention to detail and the time and effort she puts into every piece is truly amazing.
About Fiona Cocks
“I grew up in the beautiful village of South Brent attending the Primary School (nee Green) and then went to Kevics and six form at Kennicot. From here I studied a Craft Diploma at Plymouth College of Art specialising in Jewellery. I have been working as a Metalsmith since graduating from Sheffield Polytechnic in 1987, with a degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing. I also work part time at Bigbury Mint, Ermington and do some teaching at Plymouth College of Art. Recently after my daughter completed a Foundation in Art and Design (PCA), we have set up in business together with our combined jewellery interests. We both enjoy the outdoor life and the countryside and the coastline that Devon has to offer, this is often reflected in our work. We spend a lot of time searching beaches for shells and sea glass, and photograph beautiful images that are all around us for sources of inspiration. Our work often combines precious and non precious materials, and use a variety of techniques and materials.”
How Fiona creates pet memorial jewellery
I was so impressed by her knowledge and expertise that I asked if she would work with us to create our memorial jewellery and very thankfully she said yes! We talked about the need for pet memorial jewellery to be beautiful and secure. After creating the initial artwork she makes each design in copper. We talk through the ability of the piece to incorporate ashes and whether they will stand the test of time. At this stage the design is often tweaked before making the prototype in precious metal, silver or gold.
